7-Day Horseback Riding Adventure in Tusheti National Park

Itinerary
Day 1: Tbilisi – Omalo (Tusheti)
Distance by car: ~190 km (7–8 hours)
We begin with a drive from Tbilisi to Omalo, crossing the dramatic Abano Pass (2,926 m). The road itself is an adventure, offering breathtaking views of deep valleys and snow-capped peaks. Upon arrival in Omalo, you’ll settle into our family-run guesthouse, meet your horses and guides, and enjoy your first Tushetian dinner.
Day 2: Omalo – Diklo – Shenako – Old Diklo Castle – Omalo
After breakfast, we ride through flower-filled meadows and forest paths toward the ancient villages of Shenako and Diklo. You’ll visit the mysterious Old Diklo Castle, once guarding Tusheti’s border. The route combines history, culture, and panoramic scenery before returning to Omalo for the night.

Distance: ~18 km
Day 3: Omalo – Dartlo – Dano – Kvavlo – Parsma – Girevi – Omalo
This is one of Tusheti’s most iconic trails. We ride through the preserved medieval village of Dartlo, then continue past Dano, Kvavlo, and Parsma into the remote valley of Girevi. Stone towers, alpine rivers, and untouched landscapes make this day unforgettable. Evening ride back to Omalo.

Distance: ~27 km
Day 4: Omalo – Bochorna – Dochu – Sakheo – Omalo
Today we explore the southern ridges of Tusheti. Ride through Bochorna (the highest permanently inhabited village in Europe, 2,345 m) and Dochu, perched high on a cliff. Continue to Sakheo before returning to Omalo. This trail gives a true sense of Tusheti’s remote mountain life.

Distance: ~22 km
Day 5: Omalo – Oreti Lake – Omalo
A highlight of the journey – the ride to Oreti Lake, sitting at 2,650 m. From here, you’ll admire stunning views over the Akhmeta valley and the Caucasus peaks. A peaceful picnic by the alpine lake before returning to Omalo for a celebratory dinner with local wine and traditional songs.

Distance: ~28 km
Day 6: Omalo – Nakaicho Pass – Omalo
Today we ride towards the dramatic Nakaicho Pass (2,900 m), which connects Tusheti with the Pirikita Alazani Valley. The trail climbs steadily along mountain ridges, offering panoramic views of both Tusheti’s deep valleys and the Greater Caucasus peaks. After reaching the pass and enjoying a break with endless views, we return to Omalo for our final evening feast.
Distance: ~25 km
Riding time: 6–7 hours
Day 7: Omalo – Tbilisi
After breakfast, we say farewell to the horses and head back to Tbilisi via Abano Pass. Arrival in Tbilisi in the evening.

Pork is not eaten or brought into Tusheti.
In some sacred places, women are not allowed to enter – your guide will explain these along the way.
Terms & Conditions
This horseback ride is suitable for all levels of riders. Beginners will be supported by local horsemen, while experienced riders can enjoy challenging trails.
Daily riding: 4–7 hours.
Safety helmets provided upon request.
Group size: minimum 4, maximum 12 riders.
A deposit of 30% is required to secure booking. Balance payable upon arrival.
Weather in the mountains is unpredictable – itinerary may be adjusted for safety reasons.

• Reservation & Payment – A 30% deposit is required to secure your booking. The remaining balance must be paid before the trip starts.
• Non-Refundable Deposit – The deposit is non-refundable, as we make arrangements and prepare horses specifically for each rider.
• Travel Insurance – All participants must have travel insurance that covers horseback riding and adventure activities.
• Respect for Nature & Environment – We are traveling through protected landscapes. Riders must follow Leave No Trace principles, respect wildlife, and avoid disturbing the natural surroundings.
